About Private School Entrance Tests
Private schools (also known as independent schools) set their own entrance tests. Format, style and content vary enormously between schools, so the most reliable preparation uses each school's own past papers. Where a school doesn't release their own papers, sample or specimen PDFs from a similar school give a good indication of style and difficulty.
Common entry points to UK private schools are 7+, 8+, 9+ and 10+ for pre-prep / prep entrance, 11+ for Year 7 entry, 13+ for Year 9 entry (Common Entrance / scholarship) and 16+ for Sixth Form entry.
Big-name private schools like Eton, Winchester, Tonbridge, Westminster, Rugby and Oundle publish full sets of recent past papers with answer keys. Other schools publish only specimen or sample PDFs.
