2027 KS1 SATs

The 2027 Key Stage 1 SATs are optional. Schools may choose to give them to Year 2 pupils (aged 6-7) at some point during May 2027. Here is what parents need to know, and how to prepare.

About the 2027 KS1 SATs

As in recent years, the 2027 Key Stage 1 SATs are no longer compulsory national tests.

However, KS1 SATs have been 'replaced' by optional KS1 SATs tests. These optional SATs tests will continue to be authored, published, printed and distributed by the STA. It is likely (following STA recommendation) that many schools across England will continue to administer these tests in the same fashion as past KS1 SATs tests.

Do bear in mind that schools will choose whether they will administer these optional KS1 SATs, not individual parents.

Children in Year 2 (those aged 6-7) will take these tests in their primary school classrooms in England, UK.

2027 KS1 SATs Results

KS1 results are based on the teacher's overall assessment of each child, with the tests used as one piece of evidence to inform that judgement. The papers are marked by the school, not sent away to be marked externally.

Parents will typically be told their child's outcome in the June-July period, with a note to say whether they achieved the expected standard, exceeded it or fell below it. Because KS1 assessment is non-statutory, results are not collected by the DfE and do not appear in the primary school league tables.
