About these YR8 Maths papers
- Test A (Autumn)
- This Year 8 Mathematics Foundation assessment tests a range of topics including coordinates and plotting points, fractions and their operations, ratio and proportion, scale drawings, linear equations (y = 2x, y = 2x + 3), multiplication and division with fractions and mixed numbers, data handling with tally charts and frequency tables, probability from bags of counters and Venn diagrams, similar shapes, two-way tables, and conversion graphs between miles and kilometres.
- Test A (Spring)
- This Year 8 foundation mathematics assessment covers percentages, including shading diagrams and calculating percentages of amounts; algebraic expressions including substitution, expanding brackets, and simplifying; coordinate geometry with plotting points and identifying lines; sequences and patterns; money problems and estimation; inequalities; fractions and ratio in simplest form; fraction multiplication; perimeter with mixed units; percentage increase and decrease; frequency tables and probability; and standard form for large and small numbers.
- Test A (Summer)
- This Year 8 Foundation Mathematics assessment contains questions covering symmetry and reflection, algebra (expanding brackets, solving equations and inequalities, nth term), data handling (pictograms, two-way tables, bar charts), probability, calculations (powers, order of operations, time conversions), fractions and ratios, geometry (triangle area, angles), and estimation. No calculator is permitted.
- Test A (Autumn)
- This Year 8 Higher Maths non-calculator assessment contains questions covering ratio and proportion, scatter graphs and correlation, similar shapes, probability with tables and Venn diagrams, quadratic graphs, fraction calculations, direct proportion, linear graphs including gradients and midpoints, area of parallelograms, two-way tables, and scale drawings. The paper tests both procedural fluency and problem-solving across number, algebra, geometry, and statistics topics.
- Test A (Spring)
- This Year 8 Mathematics Higher test contains non-calculator questions covering algebra, sequences, graphs and gradients, powers and indices, standard form, percentages, and measurement. Topics include finding equivalent expressions, identifying linear graphs, determining nth terms, working with indices and standard form, converting units, solving percentage problems including reverse percentages, expanding brackets, and working with inequalities and error intervals.
- Test A (Summer)
- This Year 8 Mathematics Higher non-calculator assessment contains questions on sequences and nth terms, percentage loss, mean and range comparisons, angle problems including verticals and interior/exterior angles of polygons, solving inequalities, scale diagrams and perimeter, constructions (perpendicular bisector), pie charts, probability, area calculations involving composite shapes with terms of π, coordinate geometry and reflections, mean from frequency tables, and ordering numbers including standard form and negative powers.
We encourage parents to use these free Year 8 Maths worksheets with their children at home. With a little extra homework practising mental arithmetic and problem solving, children will feel much more confident about their Maths.
These worksheets aim to tackle all the relevant Year 8 maths topics and include a wide variety of challenging Year 8 Maths questions.
